Application forms for entry into the Ph.D. and Professional Masters programs may be obtained electronically at the MSU Office of Admissions and Scholarships web site. Copies of applications for admission and accompanying documents, including transcripts of all prior college education, a personal statement of intent and description of previous research experience, scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examinations, and three letters of recommendation from mentors or advisors in academia, should be returned to the Graduate Secretary by December 15th for consideration for admission the following academic year.

Financial Aid »

All graduate students admitted to the doctoral program are awarded research stipends in the forms of assistantships, traineeships, fellowships, and minority-assistance programs.

Graduate Education Overview »

The goal of the Microbiology & Molecular Genetics graduate program is to provide basic education in various core disciplines of modern biology and intensive training in specialty areas relative to a student’s research interests.

Graduate Degrees »

Since the Ph.D. degree is primarily a research degree, our doctoral program is designed to foster and nurture creative and independent research. Ph.D. students generally perform rotating research projects (about 10 weeks each) in three laboratories during their first academic year.
